Marvel announced January’s Stormbreakers variant covers that pay tribute to the program’s 20-year history.
The Stormbreakers program highlights up-and-coming artists in the industry with the program stemming from Marvel’s Young Guns. The January variant covers will see the current class of artists paying homage to the original Young Guns in a series of eight individual covers that form together in an epic jam piece similar to the original Young Guns piece from 2004. The special covers include fan-favorite characters like Scarlet Witch on Avengers #5, Spider-Punk on Edge of Spider-Verse #1, Wolverine for Wolverine #42 and the latest Spider-Verse character, Spider-Boy for Spider-Boy #3.
Marvel Highlights Comic Industry Breakout Artists for 20 Years
Marvel’s Stormbreakers started in 2020 as a continuation of the publisher’s Young Guns program which began in 2004. The program is made up of yearly Stormbreakers classes, which feature some of the best up-and-coming artists in the comic book industry. Each month, the class releases special themed variant covers to showcase their art style and talents.

Artists including Steve McNiven, Jim Cheung, Sara Pichelli, and Ryan Stegman have taken part in the past, working to illustrate some of Marvel’s greatest events and iconic series. 2023’s class of artists includes Elena Casagrande, Nic Klein, Jan Bazaldua, Chris Allen, Martin Coccolo, Lucas Werneck, Federico Vicentini and C.F. Villa.
Marvel’s latest Stormbreakers Variant Covers will be available starting in January, with the final cover for Edge of Spider-Verse #1 arriving Feb. 21.
